Homemade barista milk

Make your own plant-based milk for a delicious barista coffee! This recipe with almonds or oatmeal gives a nice texture and foams well.

Ingredients

Oat Milk Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rolled oats (preferably gluten-free oats)
  • 4 cups water
  • Optional: pinch of salt, teaspoon of vanilla extract, or a little sweetener such as agave syrup

Almond Milk Ingredients:

  • 1 cup raw almonds (preferably soaked almonds)
  • 3 cups water
  • Optional: pinch of salt, teaspoon of vanilla extract, or a little sweetener such as agave syrup
Preparation

Preparation oat milk:

  1. Place the oats and water in a blender.
  2. Blend on high speed for about 30 seconds until you get a smooth liquid.
  3. Strain the milk through a fine sieve or cheesecloth to remove the oat residue. You can use the oat residue in smoothies or baked goods.
  4. If you like, you can flavor the milk with a little salt and vanilla or agave syrup.
  5. Store the oat milk in a sealed container in the refrigerator (maximum 3-4 days).

Preparation almond milk:

  1. Soak the almonds in water overnight (at least 8 hours). This makes them softer and easier to blend.
  2. Drain the water and add the almonds together with the fresh water to the blender.
  3. Blend on high speed until you get a smooth milk (about 1 minute).
  4. Strain the milk through a cheesecloth or fine sieve to remove the almond residue.
  5. If you like, you can flavor the milk with a little salt and vanilla or agave syrup.
  6. Store the almond milk in a sealed container in the refrigerator (maximum 3-4 days).

Tip: If you like frothy milk for your coffee, you can heat the plant-based milk and froth it with a milk frother or by hand for a delicious layer of foam.
